本種は本州のLindera属（クスノキ科）から得られた標本を基に記載された。これまで、本州の他、台湾から記録がある。本州では6月～9月頃に比較的標高が高い地域や東北地方のアブラチャンLindera praecoxなどの葉から得られている。本種の頭部はプレパラート標本や液浸標本では前方で黄色くなることで、頭部が一様に暗褐色のH. ainoとは識別される。しかし、生時には前方は黄色ではなく赤褐色である。両種の違いはその他、本種では触角第１～２節が多少なりとも第３～５節よりも色彩が濃いこと（H. ainoでは第１～５節はほぼ一様に黄色）、後脚脛節先端の黄色部分がより大きいことがあげられる。

This species was described based on the specimens obtained from Lindera [Lauraceae] in Honshu, Japan and has been recorded from Taiwan so far. It has been collected from the leaves of Lindera such as L. praecox at relatively high-altitude areas or northern part in Honshu. In slide-mounted specimens with KOH treatment as well as the specimens preserved in Ethanol of this species have the head with anterior portion yellow, whereas the head is uniformly dark brown in H. aino. However, the head of H. linderae is reddish brown at anterior portion, not yellow when alive. It may be distinguished from H. aino by having the antennal segments I and II more or less darker than segments III-V (segments I-V almost uniformly yellow in aino) and the hind tibia is more widely yellow at apex.
